Lugtight : The End of De-Tuning

Do your drums often go out of tune while you play? Ever wondered why that happens?

The “thread” or “threading” inside of a lug is manufactured imprecisely—just a little bit, but it’s enough that when the tension rod goes into the lug thread, there’s just a little bit of “wiggle room.” This means that every time you smack the drumhead, the tension rod moves, and the drum ever so slowly goes out of tune.

Lugtight solves this problem. What is Lugtight? It is an alcohol-based thread filler, with the consistency of latex paint. You apply Lugtight while it’s wet, to the thread inside a lug, and then insert the tension rod immediately. As it dries, Lugtight fills the gap between the tension rod and the thread inside the lug. Lugtight dries in minutes, and leaves you ready to play, in tune, for weeks. (Remember, motion is the problem in this situation, so using oil or grease only makes the problem of de-tuning worse.)

Like any latex-type of product, Lugtight will eventually wear off. So, when you can feel the drums begin to de-tune again, simply apply a fresh coat.

Lugtight will not damage vintage hardware!
